London is a vibrant, multicultural city, and its diverse neighborhoods add to its charm. Peckham, in particular, offers a delightful mix of cultures and delicious food. Deciding what to do here can be tricky due to the overwhelming choices, so I thought I’d share some of my favorite spots that I think you’ll enjoy.
After discussing our love for London, the team at Visit London asked us to showcase some of the top activities in Peckham. My excitement was through the roof because London holds a special place in our hearts, with countless places to discover. Anyway, let’s dive in. Peckham, a fantastic yet underrated area in southeast London, deserves more attention. It truly offers some amazing activities to explore.
While places like Shoreditch, Covent Garden, and Notting Hill are well-known, Peckham offers hidden treasures waiting to be explored if you’re willing to look deeper. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, you’ll find plenty of exciting things to do in Peckham that will capture your interest.
One iconic spot is M. Manze on Peckham High Street, London’s oldest family-owned pie and mash shop. If you’re curious about traditional London food, this is where you need to go. Don’t miss trying the jellied eels—they’re a must for anyone new to this part of London’s foodie history.
Speaking of food, Agrobeso African Cuisine is a great stop for some of the best Nigerian dishes, like Jollof Rice and meat stew. It’s all about the flavors here, and you won’t want to miss their pounded yam or eba with stew. If you’re looking for something quick, Nim’s Kitchen offers great takeaway options too.
For a cozy brunch or lunch, head to a nearby spot from Peckham Rye Station. You’ll find British favorites like bubble and squeak, a delicious dish made from vegetables and potatoes that were once leftovers but is now a beloved meal.
Follow the neon signs from Rye Lane to Peckham Levels, where you’ll find a lively mix of food joints, art, restaurants, and even cocktail bars, all within a repurposed car park. Close by is Frank’s, a summer favorite perched on a rooftop with stunning views of London. Enjoy a refreshing drink while watching the sunset and mingling with a diverse crowd.
Rye Wax might not look like much from the outside, but it’s a treasure inside, filled with vintage vinyl, retro board games, and a DJ playing the best tunes. It’s a fantastic spot for music lovers and those looking to unwind.
The South London Gallery is another must-visit, offering an intimate and beautiful space with rotating exhibits, ensuring each visit offers something new. It’s free to enter and is perfect for art enthusiasts.
If you’re inclined towards fitness, check out the Yard in Peckham, a popular CrossFit center. However, if you’re in the mood for something sweet instead, the Refreshment Rooms serve delicious treats.
For those seeking something more permanent than typical souvenirs, K-ink offers unique tattoo designs. Although I haven’t taken the plunge yet, it’s a well-recommended spot for tattoo lovers.
TRAID Peckham is a funky thrift store on Rye Lane where you can find cool vintage clothing and unique pieces from different eras. Rye Lane Market is also worth a visit for spices, plantains, and a vast selection of Nollywood films.
Lastly, the Museum of Contemporary Art London in Peckham is a hidden gem filled with ever-changing installations. Be sure to visit when they’re open from Thursday to Saturday to experience these captivating displays.
