Oh, macarons… Those bright and seemingly delicious French treats are famous worldwide, but I have to wonder, are they really as amazing as people say? I never quite got the fascination with macarons. I’ve tried them before, and while they’re alright, they’ve never made me think, “Wow, I just can’t stop eating these!” Honestly, I find them pretty forgettable. To me, they seem a bit overrated, and it feels like their popularity comes more from their high price and photogenic colors than from being exceptional treats.
And for me to say this is noteworthy since I genuinely adore sweets. I’m not just one of those people who claims to have a sweet tooth while being cautious with sugar. When I was younger, I even used to snack on sugar cubes, somewhat like how a horse might enjoy them. I prefer wine that’s sweet—not Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, or Merlot. Just sweet. Desserts are always my top choice on any menu, and I’ve even had dinners of just crème brûlée and wine in Paris more than once. So, I’m really into sweet stuff!
I’ve tried macarons in the UK, and maybe my mistake is that despite visiting Paris several times, I’ve never sampled macarons from La Durée. I usually walk by the shop without feeling the urge to go in. Maybe if I did, I’d change my opinion? I’m not sure. I doubt it though, since you don’t have to travel to Belgium to enjoy good Belgian chocolate or a delicious Belgian waffle. But this is where I’d love to hear your take on the matter.
What do you think of macarons? Are they truly amazing? Would a visit to La Durée turn me into a macaron fan?
