When we decided to visit Tennessee, I knew a road trip was in order. Instead of staying in one city the whole time, we planned to visit three cities over a nine-day period. Our first stop was Memphis, where we stayed at the Madison Hotel. Unfortunately, the hotel was under renovation, so we missed out on its renowned rooftop bar.
The drive from Nashville to Memphis takes about three hours, and we arrived just in time for lunch. We didn’t have any specific plans for the evening, so we wandered around to soak up the local vibe and find something to eat.
We stumbled upon Maciel’s Taco Shop, which ended up being perfect for our unplanned Mexican meal. Initially, I thought I would just have a fajita, but I was quite hungry, so I ordered some cheesy nachos, too. To my surprise, the fajita came with nachos, and I had also ordered a huge portion of nachos separately, plus a massive burrito for Lloyd. The food was fantastic, even though there was much more than we expected! I wouldn’t mind doing it all over again.
After our feast, we practically needed a wheelbarrow to leave the place! The only set plan for the evening was to check out the rooftop party with live music at the iconic Peabody Hotel. This event happens weekly and features music, food, dancing, and stunning sunset views of Memphis. Admission is quite affordable, $15 for general entry and $20 for VIP, which includes food and a special area.
The Peabody Hotel is famous for its ducks, which have a daily march from their rooftop home to the fountains. It’s quite a spectacle and attracts a large number of onlookers, like something from a storybook.
We arrived at the party as it was just beginning, secured some drinks, and settled into the fun. After several busy days, it was a delight to relax in the sun with ice-cold cocktails. Memphis is noticeably warmer than Nashville, so as the sun started to set, it was ideal.
Soon, the band started playing, and everyone was dancing. The atmosphere was just fantastic!
