Geneva’s old town is truly beautiful and likely what most people imagine when they think of the city, unlike the adventurous activities like paragliding from France or lounging at a beach club. The best way to explore it is to simply wander around and get lost. Stroll through the streets at a leisurely pace, maybe stopping for a coffee or a glass of wine along the way.
We spent a few hours meandering through the city until we stumbled upon St Pierre Cathedral. We decided to go inside, and it was quite impressive. If you visit, make sure to climb to the top. The effort of climbing the stairs is definitely worth it for the stunning views over the city and the lake.
After admiring the view, we continued our leisurely walk through the charming old part of the city. Eventually, with tired legs, we decided to return to our hotel. For dinner, we went to Bottle Brothers, an amazing cocktail bar and restaurant. We started with some refreshing cocktails and then enjoyed the chef’s tasting menu. The dishes, including ham, seafood, salads, and salmon, were so delicious they barely lasted on our plates. Even the mushrooms, which I don’t usually enjoy, were delightful.
Bottle Brothers is a great place for drinks and perhaps a bit of a lively hangout, but we were happily focused on the delicious food. By the time we finished dessert, we were pleasantly full, not the uncomfortable kind of full, just satisfied.
That evening marked our farewell to Geneva. Although we were leaving the next morning, we wouldn’t have time to explore further, as we were off to Copenhagen. Geneva exceeded my expectations, offering much more than its history, architecture, and cuisine. The city’s adrenaline-pumping activities and natural beauty truly surprised me. The crystal-clear river, so inviting for a swim, was a stark contrast to London’s Thames. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Geneva and highly recommend it as a fantastic destination to add to your travel itinerary.
